COLLABORATION

If I hear the word collaboration a sad event comes to my mind. It happened at the time when I was attending secondary grammar school. Dalma who was a student of the same school was in my year.

She and her friends were at a Saturday night’s party. The tragedy happened on their way home. They were crossing the road when they were hit by  a car. Nobody was injured seriously except from Dalma. Though the ambulance arrived in time, she fell into coma. She was in the intensive care unit for weeks...but hope dies last.....

At last she woke up from coma, however she was suffering from some mental problem. Hard time was waiting for her and even her relatives and friends. As her brain was injured, she had to learn again basic things. Such as how to walk, how to move at all, and even how to speak. After some months, she turned back to school.

Imagine, that there was a girl who had just learned again to walk, learned again to speak but was so brave to go back to a secondary school and try to catch up with the others again.

But she was not able to do it alone. She was not left alone, because her whole class and even the whole school stood by her.

Due to her class she was able to finish school. Her classmates helped her moving from one classroom to another, they made notes for her and even learned together with her. They helped her  eat, and there was always somebody next to her in case of help.

The most beautiful moment that I can remember was when after a long time she smiled again. From that time she was laughing all the time. Owing to her mates her life did not end up with giving up, but ended with graduation from the high school.

Review on Pornography

„Is something remarkable going to happen?” this was not just the question asked on the stage but a question that arose in my mind.

I was waiting for an unforgettable effect on me during the whole performance. But that something which can be described in the theatre world with the word of catharsis seemed to be off.  But I had the feeling that something more could have happened, as the source of the play provided the possibility for an occurent catharsis.

I was searching for the answer why I could not feel something more than watching a common day play?

The whole play and the text itself itself was a good source to perform it on the stage. It gave a lot of possibilities to the director and even to the actors to make the best of the drama.  It was about few days taken place before 7th July which was the date of bombings. Some characters’ every day life was shown and put on the stage. Among these characters the terrroist’s day was revealed too.

Five actors were playing on the stage. Their act was good, but not unforgettable. As  the performance was in its rehearsal period the actors could miss their parts. But leaving out of consideration the mistakes’ of the actors, it can be stated that actors could not manage to reach the aim of the play, they could not really form and establish the real tense of the scene.Though there were some moments where actors seemed to start something unforgettable but the continuation and the enhancement of their monologues seemed to be off.

However,  the basement for the tense was given to them. As the scene which involved some glasses, and the video projection with the visual effects provided the tense atmosphere in the room. The glasses promoted the simple but diverse ways for the actors that could be made use of it.

The video projection helped to create the atmosphere and reflect on the stage what was happening inside the character’s mind, soul and heart. By  the changing of the colours of the scene, the visual and sound effects made the audience closer to the characters’ state of mind.

As for me, the play made me think how the character’s act could be done differently in order to make the audience shocked and provide them something which can be said something remarkable.

                 turned out to be

                        GODOT

Hope, excitement, optimism, waiting for a better life-- can characterize the year 1989 and Hungary. Actually, were people waiting for a better life or were they just waiting for Godot who never comes?

That question arose in my mind after interviewing my close members of the family.

My aunt lived in the countryside in the late 80’s. As she was at home with her little child at that time, she could not feel the excitement that was in the country. She was more interested in her child who meant the world for her at that time.

A person that was aware of the events in the country, but felt that the aim of the events was just a drem, was my grandfather. He never believed that the system had changed in 1989. He died with the belief that nothing had changed. To understand why he felt like that I had to tell you some background information of his life. He was in his twenties, when the WWII broke out. He served in the national army, though he fell into Russian hands. What really happened to him during his captivity , my family could only guess. Sometimes my granddad told us some stories but not into details. When I wanted to go into detalis, he always stopped for a moment and became silent. He was still afraid. He was still frightened of the old system. He learned not to talk about anything in order to save his family, and not to be captured by the ÁVÓ.

1989 did not bring change for my grandpa. He was still frightened of the government.

Not like my father. He was really enthusiastic about the events that happened around him. It was the case of 1989. Though he did not know what to wait or what to hope. He and his mates had the belief of the arrival of something better. No argument was between the political parties. They collaborated, the unity of the country was complete. The spirit of the country had been stronger than any other time after that.Freedom was in the air ,the wind of changes was blowing heavily, while the nation has been still waiting for Godot...

FOGASHÁZ

Looking for a culture friendly pub? Look no further, because Fogasház opened its doors and just waiting for you. But what is this place exactly?

Fogasház is a ’ruin pub’  which can be found in the seventh district near Blaha Square. The term ’ruin’ refers to the building’s condition, which means that it is located in a building which is about to be demolished.

Because of the building’s type- olden dwelling-house- it provides intimate atmosphere to the place. What’s more the decorations and the furniture make the place more homely. That is one reason why Fogasház is getting more and more popular amongst visitors. The other reason can lie in the pub’s versatility. The pub is not an ordinary one, but actually a cultural gathering space as well. Concerts, performances are on programme, movies are played and exhibitions are held. The place gives the possibility for talented artists to start their career within its walls. It also provides room for drama clubs and other civil organizations for free.

But who is responsible for the whole place? It is the KOHÓ educational and cultural association with the leader of Dániel Ongjerth. With their ideas they are working on the image of the place. Their  They also try to satisfy everybody’s cultural supply and demand. However, they cannot plan  in more than two week’s time as the fate of  the building is still unsteady. They have to face with financial problem too: the renovation is incomplete and the problem of  heating is still unsolved. Without heating the place should be closed in winter time.

In spite of the insecure future, more and more guests turn about here and most of them become regular visitors. Though prices are a bit high but this is compensated with the experience gained there, which is above price.

Personally, I would recommend this place for those who want to have a good time in an intimate atmosphere, who are interested in art or just want to spend some time with their friends drinking and chatting. Now it’s high time to visit Fogasház!
